Aka ‘Samarkand’. Collected from a bazaar in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in 1989 by John Swenson as part of a USDA mission into Soviet Russia and Central Asia to collect native alliums. Initial flavour reminiscent of raw leeks when eaten raw melts into a mellow medium heat to a pleasant and not overpowering aftertaste. Shines when baked as is common with standard purple stripes.
